Mane Style:  How long have you been natural?

Sarah Mae: I have been natural all my life. I was forbidden to put a relaxer or any chemicals to straighten my hair (although I really wanted to). Now that there are more products made for my hair type, I have embraced my curly hair and have not straightened my hair in about 3 years.

MS: What are your go-to hairstyles?

SM: Anyone who knows me will probably laugh then nod in agreement, but an easy style for me is to rock a wash and go, pushing all my hair to one side. My second go-to hairstyle is a sleek high bun – super easy and can be worn anywhere!

MS: Do you have any holy-grail hair products?

SM: I cannot go without my Blue Roze Beauty Almond butter (moisturizer), Camille Rose Naturals Curlaide moisture butter and Curl Maker.

MS: Describe your personal style?

SM: My personal style is very versatile. On a weekday, I mostly wear slacks or business casual due to my career. I also wear a lot of black and grey. But on the weekend, I switch it up. I can be very laid back with a long shirt, skinny jeans or ripped jeans, and some boots or sneakers. I wear Timbs, A LOT lol – true New Yorker. I like to be comfortable. When I am going out, I love to be all glammed up, so I always add a pair of heels or boots. I can be night and day sometimes lol!

MS: What clothing store(s) could we find you in, mostly?

SM: I really love to online shop, so I always look online first. My favorite online store is Boohoo.com. I like Fashion Nova for their jeans. For an actual store, I shop at Forever 21, H&M, & Topshop.

MS: If you couldn’t live without one thing in your closet what would it be?

SM: My skinny black jeans! I cannot go anywhere without those. I love dressing in all black sometimes and a classic pair of black skinny jeans are always a staple.

MS: Does your outfit for the day reflect how you wear your hair? Or vice versa?

SM: That’s a good question. I don’t really pair my outfits with my hair, but I like to pair my makeup with my hair. When I am wearing a thick cat-eye, I love to wear a very high and slick bun. It just makes the cat-eye pop!

MS: Just for fun, who are your top three #WCW or just women who inspire you?

SM: I am very inspired by women who make a huge and positive impact on the community. Since I am very involved in community work, ones who serve as positive role models for members of the community, especially for young women are my #WCW’s: Michelle Obama and Maya Angelou. I am also very inspired by my friend, ArielvsCupcake – she is an amazing MUA/influencer and great friend - overall a loving, humble, and wonderful human being.

MS: If you could share one of piece advice with readers, whether it be about style or hair, what would it be?

SM: Whatever you do, don’t put too much chemicals in your hair! It really makes an impact on your hair health. Most importantly, don’t ever let anyone make you feel like your hair is inferior to someone else’s. Everyone is different in their own way and have their own unique hairstyles that work for them – so don’t be afraid to be yourself! Be expressive, even through your hair! I once heard “the bigger the hair, the closer to Heaven.”
