Mane Style: How long have you been natural?

Janee: I'd like to say that I've been natural all my life, but that isn't 100 percent true. I've never had a relaxer, but I was once a slave to the flat iron. I'm talking presses and blow outs every two weeks! I tried to go back and forth between rocking my curls and straight styles, but heat damage wouldn't let me thrive. It has been two and a half years since I've decided to embrace my natural hair totally, and I am loving every bit of it!

MS: What are your go-to hairstyles?

J: My go-to hairstyles are a wash n' go and a top knot. Baby hairs slick and on point! I'm pretty plain, but I'm looking forward to trying more styles in the future.

MS: Do you have any holy-grail hair products?

J: Absolutely, don't we all? I love Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner. Together, these babies make magic! I also love the Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste. It has a softest hold and the loveliest smell.

MS: Describe your personal style?

J: My personal style is cute, chic and dainty. I'm definitely a simple girl, but I live for statement pieces, like dusters, kimonos and jackets. I love buying basics to mix and match, and I'm all about maximizing my wardrobe. I can create a million looks with just one top!

MS: What clothing store(s) could we find you in, mostly?

J: I shop everywhere, but you can catch me in American Apparel and Zara most of the time.

MS: If you couldn’t live without one thing in your closet what would it be?

J: Black high-waist jeans. My favorite pair are my "Easy Jeans," because they're so easy to style! I can dress 'em with a pair of heels and a blouse when I want to be chic, or throw on a crop top and a pair of sneakers for sporty look.

MS: Does your outfit for the day reflect how you wear your hair? Or vice versa?

J: Not necessarily, but I try to wear my hair out a much as possible. If I'm wearing something with a high or super detailed neckline, I may go for an up-do... like a pineapple/puff or a bun.

MS: Just for fun, who are your top three #WCW or just women who inspire you?

J: I'm so glad you narrowed it down to three, because I definitely have a ton of women who inspire me! My top three are: 1. my grandma, because she's as sweet as pie. I love that lady to pieces. 2. Tracee Ellis Ross, because duhh Big Sis Tracee has all the juice. 3. Cardi B, because she's super dope, so real, and her glow is amazing.

MS: If you could share one of piece advice with readers, whether it be about style or hair, what would it be?

J: Find what works for you, and own it. It's always fun to experiment with different things, but there's nothing like having a signature style. That applies clothes and hair.
