#ManeCrushMonday w/ Sydney

Happy Monday loves!

So normally, I find my crushes for the week from scrolling through the ‘gram but this one was different. I came across this beauty as I was on Pinterest searching for some outfit inspiration. I quickly noticed Sydney’s effortless and classic style & immediately added her to my crush list. Sydney is the “Head Blogger in Charge” of Syd and the City. I love how Sydney’s brings her love for Jesus, style, and beauty (some of my fave things too!) into one platform. Check it out below to learn all about this “HBIC” (head blogger in charge). I like what she did there lol.

Mane Style: How long have you been natural?

Sydney: I started transitioning in the 10th grade, which was 2012, so 7 years in total!

MS: What is your go-to hairstyle that never fails?

S: I’m a natural that wears their hair straight majority of the time, but if I am doing no heat, I am faithful to a good ole perm rod set! Given enough time to dry, they NEVER fail!

MS: Do you have any holy-grail products you can’t live without?

S: When I wear my hair straight, I’m usually getting it done professionally and my stylist has has a few different products he switches between, but I let him deal with it. I do know a good heat protector is a must though and he’s been pretty open to me buying any brand! If I’m doing my own hair in a natural style, I must have a good 100% natural oil to give my hair some shine and nutrients. I’ve tried a few, but I really like Jamaican black castor oil and 100% olive oil.

MS: Describe your personal style in two words?

S: Traditional and feminine.

MS: What clothing store(s) could we find you in, mostly?

S: Zara and Gap. Both have staples and have some quality pieces that won’t break the bank.

MS: If you couldn’t live without one thing in your closet what would it be?

S: I would have to say any of my medium wash, high waisted jeans. I have a serious love affair with anything denim and believe a good pair of jeans, in a person’s wash/style of choice, is a must have for a well put together wardrobe..

MS: Does your outfit of the day reflect how you wear your hair? Or vice versa?

S: I would say my hair reflects my outfit. If my hair isn’t done, I tend to be more casual than normal but when my hair is in a style, I’m open to going all out!

MS: Just for fun, who are your top three #WCW or just women who inspire you?

S: Love this question - Oprah, Lupita, and Tracee Ellis Ross. I admire them each for different reasons and thinks they all are so smart and beautiful. Two qualities I look for in admirable women.

MS: If you could share one of piece advice with readers, whether it be about style, hair or life, what would it be?

S: Take time to discover who you really are and commit to being that person Every. Single. Day. There is no greater joy that being who you really are and letting God lead you in life as your true, authentic self.

Mane Style: How can we connect with you?

Sydney: You can find my blog at sydandthecity.org and find me on Facebook/Instagram/Pinterest ! I post weekly on the blog, but if you really want to see my life and get to know me, Instagram is the way to go :)
